International Education Bursary - for OCDSB Employees

OCENET is pleased to announce its International Education Bursary for OCDSB employees - one of two bursaries OCENET's Board of Directors piloted during the 2014-2015 school year. This bursary is meant to support and encourage OCDSB staff members in their pursuit of professional development in the area(s) of cultural proficiency, global competency, and global citizenship initiatives. Bursaries are available in the following amounts: $500.00 or $1000.00. Please see the FAQ section for more details. We encourage you to apply!

  • PURPOSE

To support and encourage OCDSB staff members in their pursuit of professional development in the area(s) of cultural proficiency, global competency, and global citizenship initiatives.

  • BACKGROUND

The International Education Bursary is one of two bursaries that OCENET's Board of Directors introduced during the 2014-2015 school year to support and encourage staff and students in the OCDSB to engage in international and intercultural learning

  • AMOUNT

Bursaries are available in the following amounts: $500.00 or $1000.00

MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

These are the minimum eligibility criteria for the OCENET International Education Bursary:

  • PARTICIPANT
    • Full or part-time OCDSB employee
    • Demonstration of a commitment to ongoing professional development
    • Demonstration of a commitment to International Education initiatives in the OCDSB
    • A minimum of 5 years in the field of education (not necessarily with the OCDSB)
  • PROGRAM
    • Conference or Workshop
    • Community Project Abroad
    • Study Abroad

FAQs

  • Who is eligible to apply?

    Any full or part-time OCDSB employee who meets the Minimum Eligibility Criteria outlined on the application.

  • Is family, personal or school-sanctioned international travel eligible?

    Possibly. For international field trips taking place during the summer months, it will be considered.
    Please refer to the Program section under Minimum Eligibility Criteria for a sample list of eligible opportunities.

  • What is the application process?

    There are several items to complete prior to final submission. A completed application form and all supporting documents outlined in Sections A-D on the application must be submitted by the stated deadline.

  • When will I find out if I am awarded the bursary?

    Successful applicants will be notified in two sets:

    • Mid February, 2020 for travel between January and June, 2020.
    • Mid June, 2020 for travel between July and December 2020.
  • Do I have to repay the bursary?

    No, however you will be expected to provide a statement following your educational travel experience - see Section D on the application for details.

  • Can the bursary be used to cover supply teacher costs?

    No. As noted on the application, personal, family and non-PD school-sanctioned travel are not eligible for the bursary.
