“Ottawa welcomes the world!” is our invitation to international students seeking overseas adventures in education.
Ottawa International Student Program (OISP) guides international students from their first exploration of overseas learning opportunities to choosing schools, arranging homestay and supporting students while they attend school in Ottawa. We offer international students the opportunity to learn alongside Canadian students in public elementary and secondary schools in the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board.
We help prospective students submit their applications and fees, and smooth their transition into their school and community.
We also promote personal development through cross-cultural education. Our courses for Canadian and overseas students and teachers are creating a virtual network of learning around the world.
Short-term international students are welcome to join our Global Classroom (school immersion) program during the school year or to participate in our popular Summer English Explorer program.
We offer Teacher Training programs for international teachers of English as well as leadership programs for principals and other educators. All of our programs are supported by the excellent resources found within the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB) and its schools and departments. With our teacher-training programs, we offer specially designed courses for international teachers in English as a Foreign Language (EFL). We also offer Administration and Leadership programs for principals and leaders.
The Young People’s Language School, also known as YPLS, provides academic ESL programming to both short-term and long-term international students that focuses on improving participants’ English proficiency as well as their study skills. YPLS is open year-round, offering three main programs: the Intensive English Program; the High School Foundation Program; and the OCDSB/YPLS Summer Credit Program.
