YPLS Programs

The Young People’s Language School, also known as YPLS, provides academic ESL programming to both short-term and long-term international students that focuses on improving participants’ English proficiency as well as their study skills.

OCDSB/YPLS Summer Credit Program

The Summer Credit Program provides newly arriving international students the opportunity to earn an Ontario high school English as a Second Language credit at one of four levels prior to their first day of high school in Ottawa. Open to high school students, this program is composed of the following components:

  • ESL credit content
  • Content-based language learning
  • High School Foundation Program

Intensive English Program

The Intensive English Program is an academic ESL program that helps participants become better English speakers and better students. Operating throughout the year and open to participants aged 13-18, this program is ideal for those students planning to attend a Canadian high school as well as for those seeking a short-term study experience abroad.

High School Foundation Program

The High School Foundation Program is offered twice per year (August and January) and provides newly arriving international students the opportunity to acclimate to Ottawa, learn about their schools, and make friends before the start of each new semester. Open to high school aged students, this program includes the following classes:

  • Reading & Writing Skills
  • Listening, Speaking, & Presentation Skills
  • Math Skills for Canadian High School
  • Orientation for New Students
